Summary of suggested programme of cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research in Iraq

15 January 2011 — a summary of the programme put to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research:

  1. Reforming the postgraduate system through joint supervision — we are ready to co-supervise postgraduate students and to host them at our institutions for extended research stays at an international standard.
  2. Spending short-to-medium periods each year at Iraqi universities to give lectures, deliver programmes and courses, and run training workshops for students and teaching staff.
  3. Contributing to the assessment of research and postgraduate theses, particularly those written in English.
  4. Contributing to the evaluation of teaching staff for promotion.
  5. Taking part in joint research supervised by the Ministry and Iraqi universities, within the Ministry's plan to raise the standard of scientific research in Iraq.
  6. Helping draw up a roadmap for academic accreditation of programmes and international recognition, and working with Iraqi universities on quality improvement and control.
  7. Contributing to developing and improving curricula for degrees and scientific programmes.
  8. Contributing to strategies and policies for teaching, learning and scientific research.
  9. Training teaching staff in the latest methods of teaching, lecturing and student assessment, in line with quality standards in higher education.
  10. Participating in the international scientific conferences held by the Ministry and universities, offering organisational expertise, and following up on their recommendations.
  11. Training university administrative staff in all aspects of university administration and the organisation of colleges and departments.
  12. Helping Iraqi students obtain places at international universities.
  13. Helping edit and publish a high-standard Iraqi scientific journal.
